Are all anniversaries worth celebrating?
Inland Revenue and HM Customs & Excise have managed to making a partnership stand a decade is an achievement. But is everyone better off?
Red tape and necessary stress still follows HMRC around. Plus unless you have already been informed of a rebate then a letter from them does not make for enjoyable reading.
Hopefully the next 10 years will help the UK feel better about this working partnership.
THEY MAY NOT have seemed like the most obvious of bedfellows, but Inland Revenue and HM Customs & Excise have made it to ten years together as HMRC, and for that TS offers its congratulations. That's the tin anniversary, by the way, according to traditionalists. The seven-year itch was successfully avoided but it's not been a completely smooth marriage for the unified departments, with extra-marital sweetheart deals becoming a very public scandal in recent years.
